Mongolian medicine, a branch of traditional Chinese medicine, has a long history and remarkable efficacy. The Mongolian people have continuously accumulated and enriched the precious experience of ethnic medicine during their long - term production and labor, and have continuously improved the unique medical system of the Mongolian ethnic group.
In this long and arduous history, the Mongolian people have also continuously improved their development and utilization of herbal medicines on the Mongolian Plateau, the creation of medical prescriptions, and treatment methods. During this period, many beautiful and touching legends were originated and passed by generations. These legends play a significant role in publicizing and promoting ethnic regional culture and demonstrating the unity of all ethnic groups in China.
In order to tell these traditional stories of ethnic unity in China well, tell the medical stories of ethnic minority areas well, and ensure that these touching legends can be passed down and fulfill their due value, this book has collected 100 Mongolian medicine stories and compiled them into English. It aims to contribute to the promotion of Mongolian medicine culture, the dissemination of excellent traditional Chinese medical stories, the construction of an image of ethnic unity and mutual assistance, and the publicity and promotion to the Western world, so as to drive the development of regional culture and economy.
The book is divided into three parts: the Origin of Medicines, Anecdotes, and Famous Mongolian Medicine Practitioners. Each part contains more than ten to over fifty stories. The whole book is compiled by processing and organizing the collected information based on the Mongolian medicine stories. It aims to publicize and promote the international image of ethnic integration since ancient times and the unity of the Chinese nation. Based on Newmark's cultural communication theory and Lefevere's translation theory, the collected materials are sorted out and compiled to maximize the social function of information dissemination. The translation of the collected materials is carried out on the premise and principle of not changing the facts of the stories, striving to narrow the cultural differences between the East and the West, bridge the cultural gap, and make the compilation and translation closer to the thinking and language habits of the audience, so that it can be more easily accepted by readers. It is intended to convey the medical realm of great benevolence and integrity, and the pursuit of perfection in Mongolian medicine, as well as the image of the Chinese nation's harmonious unity and positive progress since ancient times to foreign regions without reservation, and to spare no effort to assist in the dissemination of the discourse on ethnic unity for external publicity.
This book is one of the achievements of the research project "Research on the External Publicity of Discourse on Fostering a Strong Sense of Community for the Chinese Nation under the Inheritance of Ethnic Medicine Culture - A Case Study of the English Translation of Folk Medical Stories" (NHSY22619) of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region's Institutions of Higher Learning. The compilation and translation authors are all from local universities in Inner Mongolia, which endows them with unique resources of Mongolian medicine stories. Through the continuous screening and compilation of stories by the authors, this book is finally published as it is scheduled.
